BRPD officer identified for Scenic Hwy shooting

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)- The Baton Rouge Police Department is providing the following update on the investigation into an officer-involved shooting on Scenic Hwy. that happened on Jan. 23.


The officer who was involved in the shooting that occurred in the early morning hour of January 23, 2021 has been identified as Devin Sullivan. Sullivan has been employed with the Baton Rouge Police Department since March of 2019. Sullivan is currently assigned to the Uniform Patrol Bureau.

He remains on administrative leave per standard procedure.

This investigation remains ongoing.


BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Detectives responded to an officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning in the 1100 block of Scenic Hwy.

The shooting took place at approximately 12:40 a.m. and involved a driver who fled a crash scene on foot and a BRPD officer.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, “a Baton Rouge Police Officer attempted to stop a white Chevrolet SUV around the 2000 block of Plank Road after observing traffic violations.”

After ignoring the officer’s request, the driver crashed in the vicinity of Plank Rd. and Scenic Hwy.

After the crash, the driver left the vehicle with a weapon in hand, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.

The BRPD officer noticed the weapon and “discharged his weapon striking the suspect.”

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, “assisting officers arrived on scene and immediately began life saving measures on the suspect.”

The suspect is expected to live and the BRPD officer was not hurt during this shooting.

The suspect is awaiting transport to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison while recovering in the hospital.

BRPD says, “the officer was placed on administrative leave per standard procedure.”

The investigation into this officer-involved shooting remains open.
