BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Police Department has three suspects in custody related to the triple homicide on Memorial Day at an apartment complex on College Drive.
Two of those suspects are Christopher Stovall and Latoya Coleman.
One juvenile has been booked. The teenager is facing three counts of principal to first-degree murder and illegal use of weapon.
An arrest warrant has been issued for two more suspects. Police are still in search for the last suspect who they believe helped the shooter get away.
The two other suspects will face the same charge and also face charges for ‘accessory after the fact’.
According to BRPD, a total of six suspects were involved.
During Tuesday’s press conference, Chief Murphy Paul thanked the community for tips in helping the case.
“I want to start off by thanking the community for stepping up,” Paul said. “Would we like to see that cooperation in every case, yes we would.”
Police believe the victims were not the intended subject for the shooting.
East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome issued a statement about the case.
“My sincerest condolences continue to be with the family and their loved ones. As a community, we must work collaboratively to prevent further tragedies by speaking out before it is too late. I want to thank our residents who provided the valuable information which allowed our officers to make an arrest. My hope is that as we move forward, this partnership will continue to allow us to not only solve crimes, but to prevent them,” Broome said.
