BRProud: Hundreds of ‘ploggers’ pick-up 1,000+ pounds of trash around Mid-City Baton Rouge

Local News

More than 250 people showed up to a ‘plogging’ event in Baton Rouge, Thursday night, resulting in over 1,000 pounds of litter being picked up from Baton Rouge streets.

The event was organized by Varsity Sports and Elifin Reality, after Matthew Laborde brought the idea of ‘plogging’ to Baton Rouge earlier this summer.

‘Plogging’ is a viral trend that started in Sweden that involves people walking or jogging while picking up litter.

Laborde wanted to bring the trend to Baton Rouge as a way to help residents take an active role in keeping the city clean.

Thursday’s event sought to break an unofficial record of the most ‘ploggers’ at a single event.

There are more plogging events being planned for the future.
