BRProud: Morning News Anchors accept #smashSMARD challenge for childhood disease awarness

Local News

Spinal muscular atrophy with respiratory distress, or SMARD, is a condition similar to ALS that causes muscle weakness and respiratory failure in infants.  The disease is very rare and unfortunately often deadly.  There are only just about 100 cases reported in any health literature.

Because of the rarity of the disease, many families impacted by SMARD often feel alone.  The #smashSMARD challenge hopes to eradicate the feeling of loneliness by asking people to accept the challenge to raise awareness in the fight against the disease.

Once nominated, participants are asked to take a pie to the face, after nominating someone else to keep the challenge and awareness going.

Fox44 Morning News Anchors Carly Laing and Gerron Jordan were nominated to participate in the #smashSMARD challenge.  Before taking their pies to the face LIVE on Fox44′s First Edition on Thursday, they nominated evening anchors Chad Sabadie and Lauren McCoy.

Will they now step up to the challenge?
