The countdown has begun for air travelers to get the Real ID because in less than a year changes are coming.
TSA has begun to alert the public to get the ID before October 1, 2020, when it actually goes into effect.
The 2005 Real ID Act prohibits federal agencies from accepting driver’s licenses and ID’s that do not meet standards set by the Department of Homeland Security.
If you don’t meet those requirements or don’t have another form of compliant identification, you will be turned away from checkpoints.
The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles are joining the TSA and the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport to remind the public that enforcement of the Real ID act and detail the latest requirements and procedures for Louisiana residents to obtain ID Friday at 9:15 a.m.
The cost to obtain a Real ID does not differ from the cost to obtain or renew a license or ID. The Real ID may be obtained at any time as a replacement license or ID.
