Business and School Closures due to Tropical Storm Barry

Cancelled flights on airport board panel

Businesses have started to announce closures ahead of Tropical Storm Barry.

The following businesses will be closed:

  • The Levee Bike Path that runs along River Rd will be closed between Haig Street and W McKinley Street. The closure will begin on 7/11/19 @ 12 pm until further notice.    
  • Parkview Eagle Experience Day Camp and Parkview Preschool will close at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, July 12).
  • Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) is announcing the closure of all of its educational sites Friday, July 12 – Sunday, July 14. All activities and events are canceled. The college will resume normal business operations on Monday, July 15. The BRCC educational sites include: Mid City Campus, Acadian Site, Ardendale Site, Central Site, Frazier Site, Jackson Site, New Roads Site, and Port Allen Site.
  • The 23rd Judicial District Court and Ascension Parish Court shall close at noon on Friday, July 12, 2019 due to the weather.  The Courts will reopen for normal business hours on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.
  • LSU will be closed on Friday, July 12 as well as Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14. All classes and events scheduled for Friday are cancelled. This includes all athletic and academic summer camps, the LSU Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool, the LSU Testing Center, all camps and activities at the University Laboratory School, and any other events or activities scheduled on LSU’s campus.
  • Knock Knock Children’s Museum will be closed Saturday, July 13, 2019 and will remain closed on Sunday, July 14, 2019.
  • The OMT Concert and Drawings scheduled for Friday, July 12th at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino are cancelled.
  • The First Annual Slam’d and Cam’d Car Show has been postponed to Saturday, July 20.
  • EBRDA and the City-Parish of East Baton Rouge be closed to the public tomorrow in preparation for Hurricane Barry. The courts of the 19th JDC will be open tomorrow but will close early at 2 p.m.
  • Due to the forecast of bad weather, St. Joseph’s Academy will be closed on Friday, July 12. The ACT test scheduled for Saturday, July 13, will be rescheduled for a later date. Students will be notified by ACT when the new date has been determined.
  • All locations of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library will be closed Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13, due to the threat of severe tropical weather. What hours Libraries will be open on Sunday, July 14, will be determined and shared with the public at a later time, depending on weather conditions.
  • LASM will remain closed through Sunday, July 14. At this time, they anticipate opening at their usual time, 10 AM, on Monday, July 15 .
  • ACT at Warren Easton for Saturday July 13 cancelled: The ACT test is canceled for Saturday, July 13 at Warren Easton Charter High and will be rescheduled at a later date.
  • The Clerk of Court’s Office will be closed Friday, July 12, 2019, due to emergency weather conditions.
  • Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group has announced that all clinics will be closed on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14 due to Tropical Storm Barry.

Due to the uncertain path associated with Tropical Storm Barry, and the need for preparation for an extreme rainfall event, Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne is announcing that state offices in 32 parishes will be closed Friday, July 12, 2019. Those parishes are:

  • Acadia
  • Ascension
  • Assumption
  • Calcasieu
  • Cameron
  • East Baton Rouge
  • East Feliciana
  • Iberia
  • Iberville
  • Jefferson
  • Jeff Davis
  • Lafayette
  • Lafourche
  • Livingston
  • Orleans
  • Plaquemines
  • Pointe Coupee
  • St. Bernard
  • St. Charles
  • St. Helena
  • St. James
  • St. John
  • St. Landry
  • St. Martin
  • St. Mary
  • St. Tammany
  • Tangipahoa
  • Terrebonne
  • Vermilion
  • Washington
  • West Baton Rouge
  • West Feliciana
