Businesses along Acadian Thrwy were impacted by the heavy rain we saw Thursday morning.
Mexican restaurant Mestizo got five inches of water inside of the building. The owner, Jim Urdiales, said the restaurant saw three inches of water during the 2016 floods.
There is no word on how much the damage will cost but the restaurant plans to re-open Saturday, June 8.
“The water came in a lot quicker than it did three years ago,” said Urdiales.
Fred Raiford with department of transportation and drainage said crews are working to get the Acadian underpass flooding issue solved.
“When you try to pump into the channel that’s full and overflowing different places it doesn’t work real well sometimes so that’s an issue unfortunately because of the amount of rain that fell in the short amount of time,” said Raiford.
As we expect more rain Friday, local officials are asking residents to be mindful of the roads.
