BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Monday, Pecue Lane will be closing for more than a month and businesses are preparing for a possible traffic nightmare.
The road will close from Perkins Road to Airline Highway, forcing drivers to take alternatives routes.
“As it is in the morning you know trying to get out to the job site, imagine in the afternoon when 3:30 – 4 o clock traffic starts backing up” said Kyle’s Lawn and Landscape’s Landscape Division Manage, Travis Foreman.
People say, they are not looking forward to traveling those already busy roads.
“This will just add a tremendous amount of man power that’s lost not on a job just travel time having to go other directions down Siegen lane or highland road to bypass this that we can’t just cross sufficient right here” said Foreman.
The parish is building a new bridge with new access to I-10 to ease future congestion.
“Pecue is going to be widened to a four lane highway. it’s going to provide another access for people to get on and off throughout if you have problems on the interstate, the can get on and off and move through the parish like they need to” said East Baton Rouge Parish’s Transportation and Drainage Director, Fred Raifrod.
Although the closure is only temporary.
“We’re trying to make the improvements that make it easy, more accessible for the public so it still have to be safe and those are the issues we are trying to address and work on every day” said Raiford.
It’s something many are dreading.
“It might be insignificant, it might be really detrimental, we’ll see the first day April 5th whenever it shuts down how much of an impact it really has” said Foreman.
