BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Emergency medical officials responded to a neighborhood in Baton Rouge after a child reportedly shot themself.
According to officials, a two-year-old was taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon in critical condition. The shooting was reported in the 4800 block of Kennesaw Drive around 1:45 p.m.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office said the toddler died at the hospital due to an accidental and self-inflicted wound.
EBRSO stated that Ryan Davis, 21, was charged with negligent homicide for leaving the gun accessible to the child.
During a post-Miranda interview, it was discovered that Davis admitted to leaving his loaded firearm on the table in the living room, according to the affidavit.
The shooting is under investigation.
