CIS announces medical assistant scholarships

HOUMA, La (BRPROUD) – Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) is giving scholarships out to anyone interested in online education to become a medical assistant.

Scholarship benefits include convenient online education, free schooling and the opportunity for productive employment.

“This scholarship provides students with the knowledge and skills to perform non-invasive and peripheral examinations of the cardiovascular system to aid physicians with diagnosis and therapeutic treatments,” an official CIS press release said.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Copy of current COMPASS, ACT, or Accuplacer scores meeting the minimum requirements listed by CIS
  • Two professional letters of recommendation
  • Official resume with contact information

CIS has partnered with Fletcher Technical Community College to develop and offer this program to include instruction in reviewing and recording patient data, physician consultation, equipment operation, diagnostic procedures, data analysis, and professional standards and ethics. Meeting the requirement for admission to Fletcher Technical Community College is also a requirement for eligibility.

When participants graduate, they will receive a Certificate of Technical Competency (CTC) in Medical Clinical Assistant. They will be eligible for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification exam through the National Healthcareer Association.
