ZACHARY, La. (BRPROUD) — The City of Zachary announced the building of a new police station and training center on Monday, Feb. 6.

In a Facebook post, the City of Zachary says the newly built building is a much-anticipated upgrade for the police department. The police department has been sharing facilities with the Zachary City Court for 35 years.

“I have watched firsthand as the department has outgrown the building, having worked in the police department complex for the past 34 years,” stated Darryl Lawrence, Police Chief, City of Zachary. “I want to thank the prior administration and city council for allowing us to be a part of all aspects of choosing the architectural firm that designed the new building and selecting the location.”

The new 21,000-square-foot building will house the entire force under one roof and have more space for an in-house training center.

Construction is expected to begin by the end of February. The building is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
