Confederate Soldier Statue at Old State Capitol

Local News

At Louisiana’s Old State Capitol Museum, behind the gates inside the Sara Morgan room sits a statue of a Confederate Soldier.

The statue used to be in town square on North Boulevard, during renovations it was removed in the 2000’s and placed at the museum.

“A decent place for the monument,” said a visitor from Houma, who likes having the statue inside, despite her thoughts on the Confederacy.

“History of the confederacy is not positive, but it can be learned, it’s in a place of learning instead of out on the street as it was years ago to be oppressive,” said the visitor.

The statue was given to the museum as an artifact and the museum doesn’t have the original platform when it was part of city property.
