Councilwoman Green commemorates Juneteenth with week long events starting June 14

Juneteenth Celebration

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A weeklong Juneteenth Celebration starting on Monday, June 14 will be hosted by councilwoman Erika L. Green and Imagination Leads LLC.

The celebration welcomes Baton Rouge youth to participate in the Virtual Mentorship panel featuring EBRP District’s Literacy Specialist Jalessa Jones, attorney James Benton, and Educational Consultant for LDOE Ashley Chavis. Events continues on Wednesday, June 16 with a virtual HBCU workshop with representatives from local HBCUs, Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOFSA), and TRIO Programs.

Both of these events are free to the public and begin at 6 p.m., however, registration is recommended.

The week of celebration wraps up on Friday, June 18 with a speaking event titled “An Evening with Tiffany Cross.” Tiffany Cross is the author of “Say It Louder! Black Voters, White Narratives, and Saving Our Democracy” and host of Cross Connection on MSNBC. Tickets must be purchased for this in-person event and includes a signed copy of Cross’s book.

Tickets to attend in person can be purchased at manshiptheatre.org while tickets for a virtual viewing can be bought on Eventbrite.
