BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — New data shows that the rate of COVID-19 cases and deaths in America’s nursing homes increased in June for the second month in a row.
The AARP COVID-19 Nursing Home Dashboard shoes that as of June 19, 69.9 percent of the residents in Louisiana were fully vaccinated with at least one booster dose and 30.2 percent of the nursing home staff were fully vaccinated with at least one booster dose.
According to AARP, the rate of nursing home deaths nationwide has increased by more than 50 percent in a four week period ending June 19.
Data shows that in Louisiana:
- Resident deaths jumped from 2 to 7 in a four-week period.
- Resident cases jumped from 204 to 656 on a four-week period.
- Staff cases increased from 217 to 571.
“Our loved ones in nursing homes are among the most vulnerable,” said Denise Botcher, State Director of AARP.
