SLIDELL, La. (WDSU) —

A Covington man was struck and killed Tuesday morning on Interstate 10 in Slidell.

Around 1:30 a.m. troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on the I-10 westbound entrance ramp from Gause Boulevard in St. Tammany Parish.

The crash killed Chad Hart, 31, of Covington.

Troopers said Hart was walking westbound in the middle of the entrance ramp when he was struck by a 2004 Ford Expedition.

The Expedition was driven by 42-year-old Shane Crawford, of Slidell.

Hart suffered severe injuries in the crash, according to the report by state police.

He was transported to an area hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

As part of the investigation, blood samples were collected for scientific analysis.

Crawford was properly restrained and was uninjured in the crash, according to state police.

Crawford provided troopers with a breath sample, which registered over the legal limit, according to state police.

Crawford was arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide.
