BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Police Department was called to investigate a shooting around 11:10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23. The shooting took place at the Cadence Apartments, 7801 Scenic Highway. As a result of the ensuing investigation, Terrell Mason, 19, of Iowa, La. was taken into custody.
A member of BRPD spoke with Mason who said he went to the apartments “to attend a party, but prior to going to the party wanted to sell some marijuana,” according to the affidavit. Two unidentified men then met with Mason.
One of those men “produced a handgun to rob Mason and his party,” according to BRPD. Mason said that one of the men left the scene while the other got into a fight with his passenger. The affidavit states that the Louisiana man tried to leave the area with his party, but his vehicle stopped working.
Mason later claimed that “he had defended himself and his friends from would be robbers,” according to the affidavit. He said that he hit one of the men in the head with a gun several times. That man was allegedly fighting one of his friends. Mason said the gun he used ended up in a book bag.
That book bag was eventually found and searched by BRPD. These items were found during the search:
- two Glock handguns
- suspected marijuana
- suspected mushrooms
- $3,515
The Louisiana man was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Tuesday, Oct. 24 and charged with distribution/possession with the intent to distribute schedule I CDS, distribution/possession with the intent to distribute marijuana or synthetic cannabinoids and illegal carrying of weapons with CDS.
He was subsequently released from prison on Thursday, Oct. 26.
