BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Police Department was asked to investigate a shooting incident on Sunday, Oct. 8.
During the investigation, BRPD learned that a shooting did take place around 9:40 p.m. at the 24/7 Coin Laundry, 6224 Plank Road. This incident involved Ronnie Burnell Payne, Jr., 52, of Baton Rouge and his ex-girlfriend.
Around 10:20 p.m., officers were told about the shooting by his ex-girlfriend. She told officers that Payne shot at her.
The ex-girlfriend also said she caught Payne with another woman, according to the affidavit. The duo got into an argument. Payne’s ex-girlfriend claimed that he hit her. She then admitted to throwing a rock towards Payne’s vehicle. This caused him to stop and shoot at her, according to the affidavit.
BRPD was able to look at the video which showed the shooting.
Payne was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Tuesday, Nov. 7, and charged with attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities. He remains behind bars on a $175,000 bond.
