WEST BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A West Baton Rouge jury took less than an hour Thursday to convict a Baton Rouge man of sexually assaulting two children after a three-day trial.
Tyrone Sanja, 52, was convicted of the aggravated rape of a then-8-year-old boy and the aggravated rape and sexual battery of a then-12-year-old girl, according to a news release from the office of 18th Judicial District Attorney Tony Clayton.
The release said that three other juvenile victims testified to being sexually assaulted by Sanja when they were between 8 and 13 years old.
“This case involved disgusting cases of abuse and violence against children that will not be tolerated,” said Clayton. “We will bring these cases to trial. We will get convictions, and we will seek the toughest sentence possible. In this case, Sajna will spend the rest of his life in prison, where he should be.”
Sanja will be sentenced to two life terms in prison on two counts of aggravated rape and one count of sexual battery on April 24, according to the release. The sentences are mandatory for anyone found guilty of the aggravated rape of a child younger than 13.
