BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge man is behind bars after trying to flee from officers while holding a knife.
Gary Davis, 33, is accused of resisting an officer, attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault on a peace officer. According to an affidavit, officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department got a tip that Davis was at the Microtel Inn and Suites on Plaza Americana Drive on Aug. 30.
Davis already had a warrant for attempted second-degree murder. Detectives searched the area for more than an hour before finding Davis in the back of the area. An affidavit said that officers approached Davis and that he had no weapons in his hand at the time.
Davis fled on foot and when detectives began to chase after him, he reportedly pulled out a knife. An affidavit said that a detective pulled out his gun and ordered Davis to drop the knife but he ran off into a Cracker Barrel parking lot and told detectives, “You’re gonna have to kill me bro.”
Davis was eventually cornered and police brought him to the ground and disarmed him. Through an investigation, Davis was also found to have an active warrant through DPS. Once he was in handcuffs, he was taken to the hospital to be medically cleared before being booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
