PAINCOURTVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) – Two men from Louisiana are behind bars after a high-speed chase in Assumption Parish. Anthony West, Jr., 20, of Convent and Kendall Jamaal Albert, 24, of LaPlace were apprehended on Sunday, March 26.
According to the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle that committed a traffic violation. The stop was attempted on LA 70 and the driver declined to stop. This led to a chase that topped 100 mph. During the pursuit, the duo allegedly threw suspected marijuana out of their vehicle.
“The suspect vehicle continued southbound on LA 1 until the LA 1010 area at which time deputies were successful in terminating the pursuit and taking the two occupants into custody,” according to the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office.
A K-9 and deputies searched the vehicle and found two handguns. The suspected marijuana which was allegedly discarded during the pursuit was also found by deputies.
West and Albert were taken to the Assumption Parish Detention Center where they both remain behind bars on the charges laid out below:
Sebastian Anthony West, Jr.:
- Speeding
- Aggravated flight from an officer
- Possession with intent to distribute marijuana
- No driver’s license
- Resisting an officer – 2 counts
- Obstruction of justice – 3 counts
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
Kendall Jamaal Albert:
- Possession with intent to distribute marijuana
- Resisting an officer – 2 counts
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon – 2 counts
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Obstruction of justice – 3 counts
Bond was set at $105,000 for West and $145,000 for Albert.
