BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge man was arrested in connection to a shooting that killed his 79-year-old father.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said John Brown, 79, was found dead lying on the kitchen floor of his home in the 12200 block of Leonidas Street around 8:52 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. According to investigators, he was found with a gunshot wound to the back of his head, and a second gunshot wound was found in his right shoulder blade during an autopsy.
Detectives arrested the victim’s son, Douglas Brown, 30, Tuesday night after an investigation.
Arrest documents said there were no signs of forced entry into the house. When speaking with officers, Douglas reportedly denied being in the city when the shooting happened and said that he didn’t know who would want to hurt his dad.
According to the affidavit, Douglas was seen on security camera footage from the day of the shooting walking in and out of the home twice, returning with what was believed to be a concealed gun. Investigators said the sound of two gunshots and John falling to the ground were heard on camera.
Detectives believe the shooting was financially motivated.
Douglas was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, possession of a firearm or carrying a concealed weapon by a person convicted of certain felonies and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.
