LIVINGSTON PARISH, La (BRPROUD) – Cynthia Perkins, former Livingston teacher, reached a plea deal with prosecutors and will testify against her ex-husband Dennis Perkins in a case involving dozens of sex crimes.

Cynthia Perkins has pleaded guilty to second-degree rape, production of child pornography, and conspiracy of mingling harmful substances. She will spend the next 41 years of her life behind bars, 40 of which there will be no possibility of parole.

Cynthia was facing 72 charges of various sex crimes, and by taking this plea, she agrees to testify against her estranged husband and former deputy Dennis Perkins. She filed for divorce in 2019.

“These three we thought was representative of what she had done and by agreeing to the facts as we put them out on the record she prepared herself to testify against Dennis Perkins,” said Assistant Louisiana Attorney General Barry Milligan.

A current lawsuit against Dennis Perkins and the Livingston Parish School System alleges Dennis Perkins videotaped himself making semen-laced cupcakes and later serving them to children. Count 15 in the original indictment – mingling of harmful substances – alleges semen was mixed into both pastries and energy drinks before being served to victims. Fox News reports that this is one of the crimes to which Denise Perkins has pleaded guilty.

Details of the grueling sexual assault allegations can be found in the 44-page indictment that was filed in December or 2019.

The deal “enabled the family of the juvenile victim to get justice without having to go through the torment of a two-week-long trial,” said Milligan.

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry released a statement on her conviction. Read his full statement below.

“Today, Cynthia Perkins admitted to her crimes and plead guilty in court. She not only waived any right to appeal, and attempt to avoid conviction, but she also spared the victims from reliving her horrific crimes during this particular trial. Today’s conviction is in the best interest of our victims and justice. I wish to thank Assistant Attorney General Barry Milligan and Assistant Attorney General Erica McLellan for their work in obtaining this guilty plea, and we look forward to holding Dennis Perkins accountable for his crimes in the very near future.”

Dennis Perkins is facing 150 charges, many of which are sex crimes.

“He is the real monster. That’s what she wants to make clear, it’s not about shifting blame, she took responsibility today, I mean, that’s what she did, but, she looks forward going after the real monster,” said Cynthia Perkins’ attorney, Paul ‘Woody’ Scott.

The Attorney General’s office got the blessing from the victim’s family before offering the deal.

“They feel that this serves justice and better protects their children,” said Assistant Lousiana Attorney General Erica McLellan.

“She played a role in this and she acknowledged that today, but she was very much taken under the control of Denny Perkins, and he manipulated her and twisted her into doing a lot of things that she was not comfortable doing,” Spokes said.
