GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) — The City of Gonzales turns 100-years-old this weekend.

The three-day birthday bash is filled with fun activities including arts and crafts, music, nail art, a jamabalya cook-off, a 5k and so much more.

“I’m very excited, it’s something, you know we have a growing community,” said Barney Arceneaux, the mayor of Gonzales.

Within that growing community, a lot of people are moving for better schools systems, jobs, and housing developments.

Gonzales is known for its jambalaya. Tammy Guillory, the vice president of the Jambalaya Festival Association says, “The first thing you do is cook a Jambalaya, especially for a funeral or wedding.”

“That’s just a staple, in a family, ya know, it’s a staple in our parish,” she said.

The mayor, city council, and organizers of this event couldn’t have been more thankful for the vendors and citizens who came out.
