NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – Nicholas A. Bernard, 26, of Denham Springs, was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash.

Louisiana State Police Troop E was called to a deadly crash around 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 1.

Bernard was driving a 2021 Dodge Ram 1500 when the deadly crash took place on I-49.

“For reasons still under investigation, Bernard’s vehicle traveled off the roadway, entered the median, before striking a guardrail and thus overturning,” according to the Louisiana State Police.

The Denham Springs man was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Bernard was thrown from the truck and died later from injuries sustained in this crash.

LSP said, “A passenger, who was restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.”

LSP is awaiting toxicology results for Nicholas Bernard.

The investigation into this deadly crash remains ongoing.

This is the 39th deadly crash that Louisiana State Police Troop E has been called to this year.
