DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (BRPROUD) – A pit bull mix was shot by a Denham Springs police officer on Sunday, November 13.

The officer just left their home for work when “the dog ran from a neighboring yard towards the officer,” according to the Denham Springs Police Department.

DPSD described the dog as “barking, snarling and lunging” at the officer.

The officer shot the dog in self-defense while on the way to their vehicle.

DSPD said the dog’s owner, Kadondra Ardoin, “was charged with the Denham Springs City ordinance for violation of the ‘Leash Law.'”

The officer was not hurt and the dog was taken by their owner to an emergency veterinarian.

The condition of the dog is not known at this time.

The officer was cleared of any wrongdoing in this case.
