BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Southern University System Foundation’s (SUSF) Million Dollar March (MDM) campaign ends with Give Day, enlisting the help of alums and friends to raise funds for Southern University System campuses and departments across the state.

Donations pour in during the 90-day MDM and end with Give Day, a full day of live talks, both streamed and in-person, and calls to reach new fundraising peaks. Southern allows donors to donate directly to the departments and programs important to them.

Southern University President Dennis Shields explains, “the dollars that people provide go to support those students today, scholarships, academic programs, opportunities to travel, supporting their interaction with the world.”

“I am a first-generation college student,” now Southern University Chief of Staff Allen Vital said, “and Southern University gave me the nurturing environment that I needed as a first generation. They provided financial resources to assist me because I did not have a family that was able to provide those resources. So I am successful today because of Southern University, and because of what they’ve provided for me, and now for my family.”

In this year’s campaign, the goal was to raise $7 million by the end of August, but they exceeded their goal a day early. The SUSF team says they hope to reach $10 million and add 2,000 more donors by the end of the day to continue helping current and future students.
