BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — Louisiana State University confirmed Monday (August 29) evening that the suspect wanted in connection with a recent attempted kidnapping on LSU campus has been arrested.
According to LSU Police, Lazariel Archilla was identified as the suspect.
He met with detectives at the LSU Police Department Monday, where he was arrested and charged with simple battery as well as simple assault.
Archilla is tied to an attempted kidnapping that occurred at Acadian Hall Thursday, August 25.
Authorities say he was a driver for DoorDash food delivery driver, and prior to his arrest, a spokesperson from DoorDash shared the following statement:
“What has been reported is terrifying and deeply disturbing, and we are reaching out to the victim to offer our support. We have banned the alleged perpetrator from our platform and are assisting law enforcement with their investigation. No one should ever have to go through something like this and we hope justice is served.”
DoorDash says Archilla did not have a Dasher account and was not permitted to complete deliveries on the platform. They believe he was using his brother’s Dasher account.
“Our rules are clear – if you participate in a delivery, you must have a Dasher account. Anyone found to have violated our strict policies may be removed from our platform. Anyone who is on the National Sex Offender Registry or has any convictions or charges for violent crimes such as homocide, sexual assault, acts of terror, abduction or armed robbery is banned from delivering on DoorDash. In addition to background checks, we use sophisticated technology to help ensure Dashers are who they say they are. All Dashers must verify their identity via a two-step process. They must upload a valid government ID and take a selfie that matches the picture on the ID. If we are unable to verify the person’s identity, they are unable to become a Dasher. People who want to use a car, motorcycle or scooter to make deliveries must also undergo a motor vehicle report. Anyone with major driving violations in the past seven years or a recent history of repeated minor driving violations is banned from delivering on DoorDash.“
