Army Corps of Engineers opens Bonnet Carre Spillway

ST. ROSE, La (BRPROUD) –  The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that all eastbound lanes on the I-10 Bonnet Carre Spillway Bridge are open for car and truck traffic on Sunday, Oct. 10.

After an 18-wheeler crashed and caught on fire in September, the bridge closed off all truck traffic due to the damage the crash caused. DOTD engineers considered the bridge was unsafe for commercial truckloads and started making repairs so all traffic could travel across the bridge safely.

DOTD said the repairs are now complete and the spillway is open to all traffic, including commercial trucks and cars. Drivers can access the latest updates on traffic and road conditions using the 511 Traveler Information System by dialing 511 from a cellphone or find the information on the website.
