The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is having a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, April 26 at 11 a.m.
DOTD will be joined by the LA 1 Coalition, Lafourche Parish Government and industry partners to celebrate the La. 1: Leeville to Golden Meadow, Phase 2E project.
According to the DOTD, the $13.2 million “project will complete the buildout of the elevated La. 1 intersection in Leeville.”
DOTD said “it will also widen the existing mainline structure and extend northward. La. 1 serves as the sole evacuation route for lower Lafourche Parish and the barrier island of Grand Isle.”
The La 1 project was let in December of 2017 and La. 1 provides the only route to Port Fourchon.
Speakers who are expected to attend today’s groundbreaking include DOTD Secretary Shawn D. Wilson, Ph.D., Attorney General Jeff Landry, Rep. Jerry Gisclair, Greater Lafourche Port Commission and President Perry Gisclair, LA 1 Coalition Treasurer Hank Danos.
The groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the Leeville Seafood Restaurant located at 24203 Highway 1 in Golden Meadow.
