East Baton Rouge Parish Schools to host virtual job fair to fill teacher vacancies

Local News

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – The East Baton Rouge Parish School System continues looking for qualified teachers. District leaders said they have hired hundreds of new teachers for the school year, but there’s still a big need for many more.

Like other school districts across the country, EBR is facing a teacher shortage. However, leaders said they have a plan in place to make sure students will not feel the impacts.

“We will make sure someone qualified will be in the classroom, even if it’s on a temporary basis. We can also move people around to different places. Maybe we didn’t need two second-grade teachers but maybe we needed one for third grade. So, we can actually move people within our own schools,” said Recruitment Manager Dana Morrison.

Transportation leaders in EBR, Ascension Parish and First Student Zachary said they are also still hiring school bus drivers. Zachary is offering a $1,000 sign-on bonus.

The virtual job fair takes place on Thursday, July 29 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Click here for the link.
