CENTRAL, La. (BRPROUD) — Deputies with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about an armed robbery around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7.
The investigation centered around a Circle K on Hooper Road and ended with Joshua Vernon, 19, of Baton Rouge in custody. Vernon was one of three people wanted in connection with this convenience store theft.
A detective spoke with someone at the store who said he was smoking outside when three men got out of an SUV. Two of those men “pointed guns at his head and forced him back inside the business,” according to the affidavit. Deputies said one of the men demanded money and received $48 from the cash register while the other two took items from the store. The three men reportedly left the store in an SUV.
Vernon was found along with his SUV on Sunday, Oct. 8, EBRSO said. He was detained after a traffic stop on Florida Boulevard by the Baton Rouge Police Department. He would later admit to robbing the Circle K. Vernon “stated he only committed the robbery because he was the only one with a vehicle,” according to the affidavit.
The Baton Rouge man was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Monday, Oct. 9, and charged with armed robbery. As of the publishing of this article, no bond has been set for Vernon.
