BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Mayor-President Sharon Weston Brome announced the creation of retirement boxes for worn American flags to be placed at East Baton Rouge libraries.

The service will be available starting on Monday, Oct. 16 in Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish for residents wanting to retire their American flag properly.

It will be a great opportunity to offer the community a suitable and respectful way to retire worn American flags.

According to the Office of the Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, the American Flag Retirement Program was started by Metropolitan Councilwoman Denise Amoroso, through the labor of the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Veterans Affairs.

Here are the following EBR library branches where the flag retirement boxes will be located:

  • Main Library, 7711 Goodwood Boulevard
  • Baker Branch Library, 3501 Groom Road
  • Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library, 9200 Bluebonnet Boulevard
  • Central Branch Library, 11260 Joor Road
  • Jones Creek Regional Branch Library, 6222 Jones Creek Road
  • Zachary Branch Library, 1900 Church Street
