BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A member of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board has officially quit.

Katie Kennison, who represented District 8, officially resigned from the school board Thursday. Her letter gave no details as to the reason why she resigned, but that she would be resigning effective immediately.

Kennison had defeated Connie Bernard by more than 400 votes during last year’s general election.

The state says a special election will be held to fill the vacancy. The dates for the next primary election are March 23, 2024, and the general election is April 27, 2024.

Kennison resigns as the school board is navigating its transportation issues after a massive bus driver callout in late August.
