Gun found in Glasgow Middle student’s backpack during search, EBRSO says

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office arrested a student after carrying a gun on a middle school campus.

According to the sheriff’s office, around 10 a.m. on Thursday, the EBRSO School Drug Task Force responded to a call at Glasgow Middle School about a 14-year-old student with a gun.

The gun was found in the 7th-grade student’s backpack during a random search, according to the sheriff’s office.

The student was taken to the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center on charges of illegal carry of a firearm on school property and a firearm-free zone.

The sheriff’s office said no threats were made.

This is an ongoing investigation.
