BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baker man is facing an attempted murder charge following what Baton Rouge Police Department determined was a road rage incident
On Thursday, Sept. 28, 4:50 p.m. a BRPD officer spoke with a man at a hospital who said he was shot while stopped at a red light. According to the affidavit, the victim said, “A white SUV attempted to merge into his lane” and he was almost hit.
The man then argued with the SUV’s front passenger at the light. The passenger reportedly got out of his car and shot the man in his right leg, according to BRPD. The victim was able to get to the hospital on his own.
A witness provided authorities with pictures of the SUV and a license plate number. Jontarius McKnight, 26, “matched the physical description given of the shooting suspect by the victim and the witness,” according to the affidavit.
The man who was shot and the witness both picked out McKnight as the shooter in a photo lineup.
He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Wednesday, Oct. 4, and charged with attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities. No bond has been set as of the publishing of this article.
