BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Butterfly Society is going into schools in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System to have conversations with students about domestic violence.
“We are teaching students that love is kind, love is respect and love is not abuse. What we have found many times is that domestic violence is starting in middle school among students,” said Twahna Harris, founder of the nonprofit.
The Butterfly Society is also hosting different events for its Painting The City Purple for Domestic Violence Month.
“We are inviting the community to join us in speaking our stories, our truth, our voices, and our power because this is a movement in Baton Rouge,” said Harris.
