BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Voters in East Baton Rouge Parish will select a judge for family court with the Nov. 18 election and decide on six tax propositions for community fire protection districts.

The race to fill the Family Court Section 3, Division D seat is a runoff between Caulette “Twin” Jackson Guillard, Democrat, and Kyle Russ, Republican. The seat is currently vacant.

The general election will be on Nov. 18. Early voting is set for 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 3-11 (excluding Sunday, Nov. 5 and Friday, Nov. 10 in honor of Veteran’s Day). Learn where you can cast early ballots here.

On Oct. 14, the parish opted to keep incumbents Sheriff Sid Gatreaux III and Clerk of Court Doug Welborn. In complete but unofficial results, Gautreaux drew 86% of the vote in his race. Welborn drew 57%.

Qualifying for state and local races was Aug. 8-10. If a race had only one candidate at the end of qualifying, that person is set to take office at the start of the next term.

Incumbent Brian Wilson, a Republican, won the assessor seat and incumbent “Beau” Clark, a Republican, won the coroner position through sole qualification.

Alsen Fire Protection District No. 9 Proposition

Can Alsen Fire Protection District No. 9 collect a 10-mill ad valorem property tax from 2024 to 2033? About $205,000 is expected to be collected annually. Funds will be used for the “development, operation and maintenance of the fire protection facilities of the District and paying the costs of obtaining water for fire protection purposes, including charges for fire hydrant rentals and service.”

Brownsfield Fire Protection District No. 3 Proposition (Renewal)

Can Brownsfield Fire Protection District No. 3 collect a 10-mill ad valorem property tax from 2025 to 2034? About $340,000 is expected to be collected annually. Funds will be used for “the development, improvement, operation and maintenance of the fire protection facilities of the Brownsfield Fire Protection District, and paying salaries and benefits of fire district personnel, paying the costs of obtaining water for fire protection purposes, and paying the cost of fire hydrant rentals and service.”

Chaneyville Fire Protection District No. 7 Proposition

Can Chaneyville Fire Protection District No. 7 collect a 10-mill ad valorem property tax from 2024 to 2033? About $121,000 is expected to be collected annually. Funds will be used for “the development, operation and maintenance of the fire protection facilities of the District and paying the costs of obtaining water for fire protection purposes, including charges for fire hydrant rentals and service.”

East Side Fire Protection District No. 5 Proposition

Can East Side Fire Protection District No. 5 collect a 7.5-mill ad valorem property tax from 2024 to 2034? About $826,830.46 is expected to be collected annually. Funds will be used “for increasing manpower, hiring, training, and equipping personnel, and the development, operation and maintenance of the fire protection facilities of the District.”

Fire Protection District Six Proposition (Renewal)

Can Fire Protection District Six collect a 10-mill ad valorem property tax from 2025 to 2034? About $647,999.15 is expected to be collected annually. Funds will be used “for the development, operation and maintenance of the fire protection facilities of the District including the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes and fire hydrants.”

St. George Fire Protection District No. 2 Proposition

Can St. George Fire Protection District No. 2 collect a 4-mill ad valorem property tax from 2024 to 2033? About $6 million is expected to be collected in the first year, which could increase in relation to property values. Funds will be used “for development, operation and maintenance of the fire protection facilities of the District and paying the costs of obtaining water for fire protection purposes, including charges for fire hydrant rentals and service.”
