BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD)- The East Baton Rouge School District came together to relieve some back-to-school expenses for parents.
Students will be heading back to school in just a week, Superintendent Sito Narcisse says events like this gives kids an exciting start to kick-off the school year.
“We’re going to start school August 11th and we want families to feel good about where they are,” said Narcisse.
From haircuts to new school supplies, organizers hope this will give kids a sense of normalcy heading back into in-person learning.
“The first day of school is super exciting for most families, first brand new shirts, brand new sneakers,” said Narcisse
Narcisse says that all the safety measures taken to put the event together should be a sign to parents that their children are in good hands.
“Our job is to make sure that families feel safe,” said Narcisse.
The all-in-one event provided children and parents with bus cards, nutritional information, school registration, and health screenings.
“I think there are a lot of parents in our community that depend on events like this,” said Project 70805 founder Jason Hughes.
Countless volunteers and staff members participated to make the event a success.
“I’m the superintendent but it takes a village to do this work,” said Narcisse.
