East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office investigating multiple rims and tires stolen on Hondas

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)- Some residents at the Cypress Lake Apartment complex woke up victims of theft after having their car rims and tires stolen.

The targeted vehicles are the Honda Accord Sport.

Local resident Ms. Lewis woke up to her 2020 Honda Accord rims and tires ripped apart overnight.

“This was my dream car, now I am thinking about trading it in,” she said.

According to Daniel Wilkins at Siegen Car Care, stolen car items are common when the price of metal is high. The Honda Accord Sport rims are easy to steal by purchasing the proper key locks.

“They can steal these in under five minutes. So there are two to three cars in a parking lot, you know resale values of these is $1,000 dollars,” Wilkins said.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office has video of the incidents but no suspects have been identified.

EBRSO is asking vehicle owners to purchase aftermarket locking nuts for their tires.

The Cypress Lake Apartments are informing their residents of the problem.

For Ms. Lewis the security in her complex is not the issue, she is afraid the make of her car is an easy target.

“I am lost of words,” she said. “It’s just not a good feeling. I feel so violated, I worked too hard.”

According to Wilkins, stolen parts for Honda Accords are a problem everywhere. He says rims and tires at Honda lots in the capitol city have been stolen from in the past.

“I’m not quite sure how you can protect yourself if someone has a key to remove the lock. Put 3 or 4 or 5 different locks on but then you need 3 or 4 or 5 different keys,” Wilkins said.
