BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — East Feliciana Parish residents have another chance to vote in November. Voters will choose who will be the next police juror for District 5. They’ll also determine five parishwide tax propositions and one for the town of Slaughter.
Across Louisiana, voters will cast ballots for the attorney general, secretary of state and treasurer and decide on four proposed constitutional amendments.
The general election will be Nov. 18. Early voting will be 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Nov. 5-11, excluding Sunday, Nov. 5 and when Veterans Day is observed Friday, Nov. 10.
Races decided Oct. 14
The following candidates won their respective races on Oct. 14, per the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website:

Parishwide Proposition No. 1 of 4 (3/4% Sales Tax Renewal)
Can the Parish of East Feliciana collect a sales and use tax of 3/4% for 10 years, starting Jan. 1, 2025? About $872,000 is expected to be collected annually. Funds will be used “to provide, maintain, operate, construct, acquire and/or improve solid waste disposal facilities and services and to contribute to the maintenance of the reserve equal to one year’s operating expenses for solid waste purposes as determined by the prior year’s Parish’s Solid Waste Fund financial statement and any proceeds in excess of the above purposes to be used as follows: (i) 50% to the Parish’s General Fund and (ii) 50% to the Parish’s Road and Bridge Fund for any and all road and bridge purposes, including equipment.”
Parishwide Proposition No. 2 of 4 (1/4% Sales Tax Renewal)
Can the Parish of East Feliciana collect a sales and use tax of 1/4% for 10 years, starting Jan. 1, 2025? About $291,000 is expected to be collected annually. Funds will be used “used to provide, maintain, operate, construct, acquire and/or improve solid waste disposal facilities and services and to contribute to the maintenance of the reserve equal to one year’s operating expenses for solid waste purposes as determined by the prior year’s Parish’s Solid Waste Fund financial statement and any proceeds in excess of the above purposes to be used as follows: (i) 50% to the Parish’s General Fund and (ii) 50% to the Parish’s Road and Bridge Fund for any and all road and bridge purposes, including equipment.”
Parishwide Proposition No. 3 of 4 (1% Sales Tax Renewal)
Can the Parish of East Feliciana collect a sales and use tax of 1% for 10 years, starting Jan. 1, 2025? About $1,162,500 is expected to be collected annually. Funds will be “divided between the Parish and incorporated municipalities therein as follows: (i) 62.8135% to the Police Jury of the Parish, the governing authority thereof: (ii) 3.8181% to Slaughter; (iii) 14.6863% to Jackson; (iv) 2.2908% to Norwood; (v) 3.9892% to Wilson; (vi) 12.4021% to Clinton; and shall the aforesaid proceeds of the respective Tax allocations be dedicated as follows: (a) Parish – for constructing and maintaining public roads, highways and bridges; (b) Municipalities – for constructing and maintaining streets and sidewalks.”
Parishwide Proposition No. 4 of 4 (Millage Renewal)
Can the Parish of East Feliciana collect a 3-mill from 2025 to 2034? About $812,600 is expected to be collected annually. Funds will be used for “constructing, maintaining and operating the public health unit of the Parish, and to maintain a reserve equal to one year’s operating expenses for said public health unit as determined by the prior year’s financial statement of the Parish’s Health Unit Fund, and any proceeds in excess of the above purposes to be used as follows: (i) 10% to the Parish’s General Fund for any lawful corporate purpose and (ii) 90% to the Parish’s Road and Bridge Fund for (a) purchasing equipment for constructing, improving and maintaining public roads, highways and bridges and (b) constructing capital improvements in connection with public roads, highways and bridges.”
Town of Slaughter Proposition
Do you want to change the chief of police position for the town from an elected seat “with the qualifications being only to reside inside the Town limits for the immediately preceding year,” to a position appointed by the mayor and board of aldermen, who would have oversight? The board would set the “qualifications, responsibilities, duties, and pay.”
