Mayor-President Melvin L. “Kip” Holden announced this afternoon that the City-Parish will soon launch its expanded curbside debris removal program known as the Private Property Debris Removal (PPDR) program. This program, scheduled to go into effect Monday, September 19, was developed in coordination with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approval, which authorizes the City-Parish to collect disaster-related debris from residential properties impacted by the recent flooding.
“We understand that many homeowners have had difficulty or run into issues trying to move all of their flood-related debris to the immediate curbside of their homes, especially while they work to rebuild and recover from the devastating flooding we’ve recently experienced,” said Mayor Holden. “Our hope is that by expanding the debris collection zone through this program, we will significantly improve our debris removal teams’ ability to remove all debris that has been placed in front of our residents’ homes, thereby helping our residents continue down that path toward recovery.”
Through the program, City-Parish debris removal teams will now be able to enter residential property for flood-related debris removal purposes, provided the debris is placed within approximately 30 feet from the public right-of-way and the City-Parish has received a signed Right-of-Entry (ROE) agreement from the homeowner. Please note, City-Parish crews are only able to collect debris from residential properties located in the City of Baton Rouge and unincorporated areas of East Baton Rouge Parish. City of Baker, Central and Zachary residents should contact their local municipality for information on their local debris removal program. In order to qualify, homeowners must:
- Meet with a City-Parish PPDR coordinator at the location below to provide proof of homeownership and complete a ROE form; or
- Submit a completed ROE form with evidence of proof of homeownership, such as a copy of a valid Louisiana ID or driver’s license matching the name of the owner and address of the property applying for the PPDR program.
Residents can apply in person at the PPDR Application Center, located in the Cypress Building at 10201 Celtic Drive, Suite B, Baton Rouge, LA 70809.
Additionally, the City-Parish has also established several satellite PPDR Application Centers where residents can also apply in person, as well as get more information from PPDR representatives, at the following locations:
- Chaneyville Community Center, 13211 Jackson Road
- Pride Library, 13600 Pride Port Hudson Road
- Jewel J. Newman Community Center, 2013 Central Road
- Charles R. Kelly Community Center, 3535 Riley Street
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 4000 Gus Young Ave.
- Jones Creek Branch Library, 6222 Jones Creek Road
- Leo S. Butler Community Center, 950 E. Washington Street
- Fairwood Branch Library, 12910 Old Hammond Highway
Applications will be accepted beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 19th. Standard intake center office hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, unless otherwise posted at intake locations. Office hours at the Jewel J. Newman Community Center location will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
