BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – After several hours of back and forth Thursday night, the East Baton Rouge school board unanimously voted to change the name of Lee High School. It was named after Confederate General Robert E Lee.

Now that the name will be changed school board member Dadrius Lanus says he’s relived and now the healing can begin. Lanus says it’s exciting to see his proposal move forward.

“There’s a collective effort to do what is right,” Lanus said. “Not just in our schools but all around our parish and that message was loud and clear.”

The renaming committee will come up with three name suggestions over the next few weeks and then submit those to the superintendent who will make the final decision that will be approved by the school board.
