UPDATE 10:15 A.M. – EBRSO Investigates Shooting Death of Woman , LSP To Investigate Deputy-Involved Shooting of Suspect
East Baton Rouge detectives responded to a shooting on United Plaza Blvd. at Essen Lane at approximately 5:35 Sunday evening in which one woman was killed and two others injured.
Upon arrival deputies located 30-year-old April Peck in the roadway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Peck was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead from her injuries.
According to reports EMS was flagged down prior to deputies arrival to render aid to Peck who was pushed out of a vehicle into the roadway. A doctor and a 17-year-old man who was an EMT in training also stopped to assist. At that time a dark-colored Chevrolet Malibu made a u-turn and the driver, later identified as Peck’s live-in boyfriend 48-year-old Terrel Walker allegedly hit the 17-year-old, a third resident attempting to help and the EMS truck with his vehicle. Walker then began firing shots at them as they fled on foot. The 17-year-old was struck by gunfire, but is expected to recover. The third person injured by the vehicle is also expected to recover from injuries.
Later that evening detectives made contact with Walker and exchanged gunfire striking the suspect who was later pronounced dead. As per EBRSO policy Louisiana State Police will investigate the deputy-involved shooting and release any further information pertaining to the incident.
UPDATE 9:48 A.M. – According to EBR’s Coroner, the suspect involved in last night’s fatal shootings has been identified as 48-year old Terrell Walker.
The female who was fatally shot by Walker has also been identified as 30-year old April Peck.
EBR Sheriff’s deputies fatally wounded Walker after he fired at them Sunday night near the Bluebonnet Blvd exit off Interstate 10.
Coroner Dr. Beau Clark added that his office will perform autopsies tomorrow.
UPDATE 10:49 P.M. – The suspect was captured. Louisiana State Police are now investigating.
UPDATE 10:10 P.M. – Authorities are searching for the suspect right now near the Bluebonnet Blvd. exit on I-10. Gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and law enforcement, according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. The suspect later fled into a wooded area near the exit and is injured.
One person is dead and two others injured after a shooting and crash near Essen Lane in Baton Rouge.
Details are still scarce right now, but the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office tells us it happened around 5:30 P.M.on United Plaza Boulevard. One person is dead and another is injured from the gunfire, and a third person has injuries after being struck by the suspect’s vehicle.
