Electrical house fire caused by restored power

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to a house fire call from a single family residence on Forest Ave.

According to an official press release, the residents of the home were outside talking to neighbors about the power that had just been restored to the neighborhood.

They called 911 after they noticed smoke coming from the roof near the rear of the home. Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy smoke coming from the roof.

Firefighters made entry into the house and were able to stop the fire in the attic.

Baton Rouge Fire Department investigators suspect that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction when the power was restored. The home sustained heavy smoke and water damage.

There were no reported injuries from the residents and the firefighters.
