Brusly Elementary School is bringing the LSU and Alabama rivalry to new heights after the school hung up an Alabama flag in its courtyard for a fundraiser.
Blaine Rabalais has a son that attends the school and is the PTO President. He says his family has been Tiger fans since before he can remember. He attends most games and says when he and his wife had their son, Tyce it was a must that their son bleed purple and gold, and of course, hate ‘Bama.
When it was time to pick this years fundraising campaign, Rabalais says he combined the love he has for his son’s school with the love he has for LSU. He decided hanging the flag would be a good way to get fans riled up and would bring in large amounts of cash for the school.
“We thought this would be perfect [way] to raise money and try to take down ‘Bama,” Rabalais said.
He says the flag is supposed to make LSU fans want to take it down. In order to do that they have to donate money and when they do, the flag starts to drop. But, there’s a catch. If an Alabama fan donates money, the flag raises.
“We usually don’t like ‘Bama fans but today we love their money,” he said.
Teachers say its a fun yet competitive way to get everyone involved.
“It was a genius idea and it’s going to raise a ton of money for the school,” Keyshalynn Thymes said.
Though the Alabama flag is hanging in Tiger territory, everyone at Brusley Elementary School says they’re happy to be raising money for a good cause.
