Elvis the Penguin Week tackles Anti-Bullying awareness at EBRP Elementary Schools

East Baton Rouge Parish elementary schools will be participating in a week of activities aimed at anti-bullying awareness and prevention, and social tolerance promotion, during Elvis the Penguin Week, October 12 – 16, 2015.

The week activities will center around the hit children’s storybook, Elvis the Penguin. The book was written by Baton Rouge author, Kara Casanova, who licensed ICare to develop anti-bullying and social tolerance lesson plans based on her book.

The scheduled events are as follows:
 

Oct. 3        “Be Cool, Not Cruel” Anti-Bullying Preview Event. Reading of Elvis the Penguin by author Kara Casanova, followed by penguin crafts at the EBRP Main Library, Goodwood Blvd. 10:30 a.m.

Oct. 8         University Terrace Elementary. Mayor Kip Holden will issue a proclamation for Elvis the Penguin Week followed by readings of Elvis the Penguin by author Kara Casanova at 9:00 a.m.
 

                     Audubon Elementary. Readings by author Kara Casanova at 1:00 p.m.

Oct. 10        Official Kick-Off Event for Elvis the Penguin Week. Reading and book signing by author Kara Casanova and illustrator Anne Lipscomb at EBRP Main Library, Goodwood Blvd. starting 2:30 p.m.


Oct. 13        Brownsfield Elementary. Readings by author Kara Casanova at 9:00 a.m.
        

                     Buchanan Elementary. Readings by author Kara Casanova at 1:00 p.m.

Oct. 14        Westdale Heights Academic Magnet. Readings by author Kara Casanova at 1:00 p.m.


Oct. 15        Woodlawn Elementary. Readings by author Kara Casanova at 8:30 a.m.
                    

                     Bernard Terrace Elementary. Readings by author Kara Casanova at 1:00p.m.          


                     Elvis the Penguin Theatre Production. The event will be held at the Baton Rouge Center for Visual and Performing Arts. Performance is open to the public.  Starting time at 6:00 p.m.


Oct. 16        Greenbriar Elementary. Readings by author Kara Casanova at 9:00 a.m.                 
                    

                     The Elvis the Penguin Theatre Production. The event will be held at the Baton Rouge Center for Visual and Performing Arts. Performance is open to parents and other elementary schools. Starting time at 1:30 p.m.

Oct. 18        Aetna End-of-Elvis-the-Penguin-Week Event. The event will be held at the Barnes and Nobles Booksellers at Citiplace, Corporate Blvd. Aetna, Better Health of Louisiana will be awarding 35 schoolchildren with copies of Elvis the Penguin as an award for their exemplary anti-bullying and social tolerance ethos. Book signing by author Kara Casanova will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Oct. 21         Southdowns Elementary. Readings by author Kara Casanova at 1:00 pm
