UPDATE:

Local officials have confirmed that the father of the three year old child has been taken in for questioning following the incident.

According to police there were at least two other children present in the home at the time the shooting occurred. The father was in the kitchen cooking.

The gun in question is a semi-automatic pistol. The mother of the children was out running errands.

Kedron Haynes, the cousin of the father says he is shocked at the accident. According to Haynes, the father purchased the gun recently for protection.

“He was a great father,” Haynes said. “Cooking for his kids. Making sure they have clothes, his main thing was his kids.”

Baker Police Chief, Carl Dunn is encouraging gun owners to get gun locks from their local police station.

“You have to do everything that you can to try to make your house as safe as possible for the kids because these little boys little girls, they are curious. And things like this can happen,” he said.
