Episcopal School of Baton Rouge announces that Randy Richard will become its new Athletic Director in July of 2016.
Randy Richard is a Baton Rouge native, an alumnus of Catholic High School, and a graduate of Louisiana Tech University. The 2015-16 school year marks his thirteenth year overall at Episcopal and his fourth year serving as the Dean of Students. During his tenure, Mr. Richard has served as a physical education instructor; P.E. department chair; and an assistant coach in football, boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, and weightlifting.
“Randy has worked in all aspects of Episcopal’s sports and Physical Education program and is a great fit for our program,” said Hugh McIntosh, Head of School. “His work here, in various coaching and administrative capacities, gives him the background knowledge to continue our balanced and successful approach to athletics at Episcopal. He is well-known and well-liked among his coaching colleagues as well as parents and students. As an instructor, Dean of Students, and a coach he has developed a reputation for high standards, fairness and good humor. He is a proven colleague and excellent role-model for our student-athletes.”
Mr. Richard will replace Ms. Myra McClure Mansur, who will be stepping down to pursue other professional opportunities at the end of this school year. Coach Mansur has agreed to continue her association with Episcopal in a consulting, advisory relationship.
Coach Mansur and Coach Richard formed a close relationship working together at Episcopal. “It is an honor to have the opportunity to continue to build on the program Myra put in place here,” said Richard. “Her vision and ability to attract and retain great coaches and faculty have made Episcopal’s athletic program the envy of many institutions. I look forward to continuing that legacy.”
“At Episcopal the focus is on the development of all aspects of the student,” said Mr. McIntosh, Head of School. “Our athletic program, under Myra’s direction, and the transition to Randy’s leadership next summer, highlight the importance we place on the stability of a quality athletic program in a high-achieving academic environment. I am thankful to Myra McClure Mansur, as is our school community at large, for the leadership she has provided over her 25 years at Episcopal. Randy’s appointment is a compliment to Myra’s creation of an athletic staff that allows for promotion from within.”
