Exxon Mobil creating 160,000 gallons of hand sanitizer

Local News

Like many people across the country, the lack of hand sanitizer forced Exxon Mobil employees to get creative.

“It started a few weeks ago honestly via a text message chain.”

J. Dow, a Department Head with Exxon said, it didn’t take long for the project to go from an idea to a full-on production.

“Over the span of really a couple of weeks, we went from a text message chain talking about the idea of making hand sanitizer to actually producing it” said Dow.

Exxon Mobil is producing the product with a target of 160,000 gallons. That’s enough to fill nearly 5,000,000, four ounce bottles.

“We’re taking good ideas and a lot of solutions into account to provide the community with something of use in such an adverse time.”

The company said, creating the product was easy but, getting approval was a challenge.

“We had to navigate the FDA, as well as with the state of Louisiana and also make sure the department of health was on board with what we are doing here because hand sanitizer is a registered drug” said Ryan Beissinger, Exxon’s Security Safety Environmental Manager.

Over the past month, Exxon has been working around the clock producing the product right here in the Capital City.

Dow said, “It’s been hard to sleep but because I know there’s so much that we can do and trying to get this done quickly. I can say that I’ve been more excited to come to work every day.”

The company said, their mission is to simply help those in need during a global pandemic.

“We are a part of the community, we’re all in this together and it’s up to us to really bring something to the table that can be used by the community in a time of need” said Beissinger.
