BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Baby formula is still hard to find, so one local organization is taking matters into its own hands.
Abbott, the country’s largest baby formula manufacturer is reopening its shuttered plant, but it’ll take weeks for new supplies to reach Baton Rouge grocery store shelves.
“With the chain supply shortage, as well as inflation, and unfortunately the recall of formulas earlier this year people are struggling to find formula,” said Dena Christy, CEO-president of Family Road of Greater Baton Rouge.
Nonprofit Family Road of Greater Baton Rouge said it is so important for a baby to have formula. So, they are working with a manufacturer to get help from parents in the Capital Area.
“We have been able to work with different companies that provide generic type formulas. They are basically the same formula that you would find in a Similac or Enfamil, “continued Christy.
Christy said these formulas can be substituted for most brand-name formulas. She says if you are in need please, give them a call.
“All they need to do is call us at 225-201-8888. Let us know the formula that the baby is normally on and then we can make sure that we have something that is comparable. If we don’t have the formula, then we are going to be able to look at different production companies to be able to get the formula in,” said Christy.
Christy said to also check with your pediatrician because they may have formulas as well.
The nonprofit is open Monday through Friday. Formula is free for parents and available on a first come first serve basis.
